SANDWICH BUNS | |
10-14 c. flour 1 (2 oz.) cake yeast 1 egg 4 c. lukewarm water 1 c. sugar 1 tbsp. salt 1 c. Crisco shortening Mix yeast with lukewarm water. Add sugar, salt, Crisco and egg. Put in center of 10 cup flour in very large bowl. Mix well and knead, adding more flour as needed (up to 14 cups all together). Knead and coat with Crisco (bowl also) cover with towel and let rise in warm area for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Punch down and let rise again 1-2 hours. Pan buns and let rise about 1 hour. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes on greased cookie. Substitute: 1 (2 ounce) cake of yeast for 3 (1/4 ounce) dry packages or 3 small cakes. Cake yeast works better for this recipe, though! |
