WHITE BREAD
1 1/2 c. hot water
1/4 c. lard (shortening)
1/3 c. sugar
2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. warm water
2 pkgs. yeast
About 6 c. flour

Dissolve yeast in water (add 1 teaspoon sugar and few drops oil). Melt shortening in hot water. Dissolve sugar and salt; add yeast and flour. Mix only lightly, do not add too much flour, just so it is not sticky to handle. Place in greased bowl to raise until doubled; punch down and let rise again. Then make into loaves. Bake. For soft crust, cover with tea towel until cool.
