GUM DROP CAKE 
1 box seeded raisins
1 tbsp. baking soda
3 1/2 c. water
4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. allspice
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
2 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
1 c. chopped pecans nuts
2 c. chopped spiced gum drops

Boil raisins with soda in 2 cups of the water, until you have 1 cup of raisin liquid; then add the other 1 1/2 cup of water. Cream sugar and shortening and add dry ingredients alternately with raisin liquid. To this mixture add nuts, raisins, and gum drops. Bake in greased tube pan at 225 degrees for 2 1/2 hours. Then bake at 20 minutes at 350 degrees. Start in cold oven. When baked leave in the pan overnight.
