ALABAMA BISCUITS 
2 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
4 tbsp. sugar
1/2 pkg. yeast
1/4 c. warm water
6 tbsp. shortening
1 c. buttermilk
Melted butter

Sift dry ingredients together; dissolve yeast in water. Add yeast, shortening, and buttermilk to dry ingredients; mix well.

Knead mixture on floured surface 20 times. Roll out 1/4 inch thick and cut with biscuit cutter. Dip biscuits in melted butter; stack in groups of two. Let rise 2 hours.

Bake at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes.
