MAMA'S RAISIN COOKIES 
1 stick butter
3/4 c. sugar
2 tsp. vanilla
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 egg
2 tbsp. milk
1 3/4 c. flour
3/4 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 c. raisins

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Blend in egg. Add milk and vanilla. Sift together flour, baking soda, cream of tartar and salt. Beat into butter mixture. Mix in raisins. Pinch off pieces of dough and roll into walnut sized balls. Place on lightly greased baking sheet 1 1/2" apart. With the tines of a fork, dipped in flour, flatten each cookie. Bake until firm and lightly brown, about 10 minutes. Makes about 3 1/2 dozen.
