CHERRY CHOCOLATE CAKE 
1 oz. unsweetened chocolate
2 c. flour
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening
3/4 c. milk
1/4 c. maraschino cherry juice
2 eggs
1/2 c. chopped maraschino cherries
Several drops red food coloring

Grease and flour two 9 inch cake pans. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Melt chocolate. In large bowl combine flour, sugar, baking soda and salt. Make a well in center of flour mix. Drop in shortening, milk, cherry juice and eggs. Blend with electric mixer on low speed, then beat on medium speed for 2 minutes. Add melted chocolate, cherries and food coloring. Beat another 1 minute. Pour into pans. Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until done. Cool in pans 10 minutes. Put on cake rack. Cool completely. prepare cherry chocolate frosting and spread on cake. Makes two layer 9 inch cake.
