BAKED APPLE PUDDING WITH BUTTER
SAUCE
 
1/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg, unbeaten
1 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. chopped nuts
2 1/4 c. shredded apples

Mix ingredients in order given. Bake in greased 9 inch pan at 300 degrees for 45 minutes. Serve with Butter Sauce:

1 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. cream or half and half
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
Dash of nutmeg

Boil together sugar, butter and cream. When thick, add vanilla and nutmeg. May be made ahead and reheated. Serve Baked Apple Pudding hot or cold with HOT butter sauce. (I think it best when both pudding and sauce are warm.)
