ALABAMA BISCUITS 
2 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
4 tbsp. sugar
6 tbsp. shortening
1 pkg. dry yeast
1/4 c. warm water
1 c. buttermilk

Sift dry ingredients, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add yeast mixture, shortening and buttermilk to dry ingredients. Mix well. Put on floured board. Knead at least 20 times. Roll out until 1/4 inch thick. Cut with biscuit cutter. Dip in melted butter. Stack two together, on greased pan. Let rise about 2 hours. Bake at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes. Makes 16 double biscuits.
