1 stick butter
1/2 c. salad oil
1 c. sugar
1 egg
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar (or 3/4 tsp. lemon juice)
1 tsp. vanilla
Dash of salt

Cream butter, salad oil and sugar, add egg and continue to beat. Add flour, salt, soda, cream of tartar and vanilla. Roll into small balls. Press down with glass. (Wet glass with water. Dip glass in sugar, press down cookie.) Bake at 375 degrees until brown. Makes 4 dozen.
