MOTHER'S HELPER - PLAY CLAY
1 c. flour
1/2 c. salt
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 c. water
1 tbsp. oil
Few drops food coloring (optional)

Mix together, add coloring if desired and place over medium heat. Cook until thick (it will have lumps). Remove from stove. Work the mixture with your hands as soon as it cools down, until the lumps are gone and it is smooth.

Store in a Baggie or covered in airtight container. This is a very nice texture and children enjoy working with it.

A simple flower can be made in the following manner: Form 6 tiny balls of clay. Flatten 5 of them in the center (making a petal) and place in a circle around ball #6. This forms the flower shape. Attach by slight pressure at each petal side to the center ball. Flatten center a tiny bit, and air dry to harden.

Finished shapes can be joined together by poking holes in soft clay with toothpick, before drying. This clay is fast to make, easy to work with and smooth to the touch.
