I substituted a half of a large Hershey chocolate bar for the chocolate chips. I also used powder sugar and added an additional half cup of powdered sugar.

I followed the directions to a "T" except that I used organic powdered sugar. At first I though it was too runny, but as it cooled further it developed more of a fudgy texture. It was OK. I used milk chocolate, maybe it would have been better with semi-sweet or dark? It seemed to be a little too overly sweet and not as rich. I will try this one again with some tweaking.

It's chunky. But it still tasted good and i used white and dark chips, and it turned out like caramel. Ok recipe!

I made this exactly as the recipe stated and it turned out wonderful... I needed frosting for a Boston Creme pie. It made a nice think layer of frosting for an 8-inch round. I think beating it until cool was the secret to the creamy texture. To frost the sides of a round, you will need to double the recipe. Yummy!

I thought this was amazing, but I am curious, do you think you could do the same with white chocolate chips?

This was the perfect lifesaver for an icing to go with my eclair cake (which is just graham crackers layered with vanilla pudding). It was so quick and easy to make in a pinch - and the ingredients are common and normally in my cupboard anyway!

I was making brownies and needed some quick frosting and came across this one and I loved it! It's name speaks the truth.

I didn't have any store bought chocolate icing and I'm SO happy to run across this recipe. It's delicious and I didn't have to go out to the store for anything. I'd recommend using this!

Mine Failed miserably. I've got my suspensions of what may have gone wrong. But mine tasted off (wrong) & it was gritty with the sugar crystals not fully dissolved.
I used semi-sweet choc. Chips. What kind of choc. Chips are best in this recipe? That's my only guess on the flavor issue... is that I should've used milk choc. Chips. Hope yours turns out better than mine!

Used powdered sugar, but otherwise followed the recipe exactly (2% milk and semi-sweet chips). It was plenty sweet and very rich. It covered a 2-layer 9" cake for me, but with a thin layer of frosting. Everyone agreed that more would have been overkill though, so a thin layer ended up being just right.

Next time I'll probably pour the mixture into my stand mixer to beat it. I did it by hand in the same heavy-bottomed pot I cooked it in and it took FOREVER (~30 minutes) to get to room temperature.

Excellent recipe! I used the exact ingredients and it was superb! On that note, all these people that "Change" the recipe then "Review" the recipe make no sense? If you change it it's not the same so WHY do you leave a review for a different recipe? Post your changed version and let people review that!

Thank you! This was the first time I made frosting and it turned out well after I put it in the refrigerator!
