CROCK POT APPLE BUTTER
12 c. apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
6 c. sugar
6 tbsp. cinnamon
1 1/2 tsp. ground cloves

Put in crock pot and cover. Cook on high 6 or 7 hours. Take cover off and cook 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally until thick. This will be coarser than regular apple butter. Very good.

I amde this recipe and it is a little sweet. I used tart apples, but it is really sweet. Next time I will cut the sugar amount to maybe 4-1/2 cups.

If you use a "stick mixer" like they use for mixing cocktails and such, your apple butter will bcome smooth as . . . well, BUTTER! You may want to let the butter cool a little before sticking the mixer in the crockpot. I have no problem using the mixer in the hot butter, but you'll want to check, just in case. A stick mixer also works well if you're making pear or pumpkin or any kind of "butter."

BTW, I rated this a 3 because I prefer to use a little warm apple juice in the cooker when I first add the apples to the crockpot. Warming the juice helps get the crockpot get hot more quickly.

I make crockpot apple butter. But do not peel the apples. Cut and core apples (do not peel), cut out bad spots. Put apples 1/2 cup orange juice and 8 ounces of red hot candies in crockpot and cook 6-8 hrs. Run through food processor and return to crockpot. Add sugar spices of choice, and cook until thick. Put in jars and seal. Delicious

Great recipe.. I dont peel my apples, there is alot of flavor in them. and I did cut the sugar back to 4 cups. After 6 hours I put it through the food processor and then back in the crock for 1-2 hours.. it makes a smooth nice apple butter

The first time I made this recipe I found it way too sweet. Since then, I have made it using half the amount of sugar (3 cups), and it comes out great!! I've made it quite a few time now. Always a hit!
