BEST EVER PLAYDOUGH 
2 pkg. unsweetened dry fruit drink mix for color and scent (optional)
2 c. flour
1 c. salt
4 tsp. cream of tartar
2 c. water
2 tbsp. vegetable oil

Mix together in a large saucepan the first four ingredients. Combine the water and vegetable oil and gradually stir into the dry ingredients. Cook over medium to high heat, stirring constantly until the mixture forms a ball. Remove from heat. When cool enough to touch, knead until smooth. Store in an airtight container.

This recipe first came to my attention when my children were attending preschool. The -90's version has the addition of the drink mix which adds color and scent, but could be left out and food coloring used instead.
