ORANGE NUT BREAD 
1 orange
1 c. raisins or dates
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. sugar
2 tbsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1 beaten egg
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. chopped nut meats

Squeeze the juice of 1 orange into a 1-cup measure and fill the cup with boiling water to equal 1 cup. Cream sugar, butter and vanilla; add egg. Add dry ingredients slowly with orange juice. Add nuts and raisins. Pour into bread pan lined with wax paper. Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees.
