ORANGE NUT BREAD 
2 1/2 c. all purpose flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. shortening
3/4 c. milk
1/4 c. fresh orange juice
1 egg
3 tbsp. grated orange rind
1 c. chopped nuts

Sift dry ingredients into bowl. Cut in shortening with pastry blender or 2 knives. Add milk, orange juice and egg. Mix only enough to dampen dry ingredients. Add grated rind and nuts. Pour into greased 9x5x3 inch loaf pan, spreading batter to corners and leaving a slight depression in center. Let stand 20 minutes. Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees) about 1 hour. Let stand 5 minutes, then turn out on rack to cool. Store overnight before slicing.
