MAPLE BARS 
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. maple syrup
1 egg
2/3 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. rolled oats
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. nuts or coconut

Mix all ingredients thoroughly and spread in a greased square pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. While still warm, cut into squares.
