FINNISH COFFEE BREAD | |
1 c. milk, scalded 1/3 c. sugar 1/3 c. shortening (butter) 3 eggs 10 cardamon seeds, crushed 4 1/2 c. flour 1 tsp. salt 2 yeast cakes, dissolved in 1/4 c. warm water Cream shortening and sugar. Add scalded milk and salt. Add beaten eggs and cardamon. Cool to lukewarm. Add yeast. Add flour and lightly knead on floured board. Let rise until double in bulk. Shape into braided loaves and let rise. Brush tops with slightly beaten egg white and sprinkle sugar over. Bake at 350 degrees about 45 minutes. |
