CARAMEL CHEWY COOKIES 
48 caramels
7 1/2 tsp. cream or can milk
1 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 c. quick oatmeal
1 1/8 c. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
2/3 tsp. baking soda

Melt caramels and cream or milk in double boiler. Mix together dry ingredients. Melt 1 cup butter and add to dry mix. Pat 1/2 of the dry mixture into bottom of a 9"x13" pan and bake for 10 minutes at 350 degrees. Pour caramel over hot crust. Sprinkle 6 ounces chocolate chips on top of hot caramel (small flickettes work the best). Sprinkle the rest of the dry mixture on top (do not pat or stir). Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.
