OLD-FASHIONED BUTTER CAKE 
1 c. butter
2 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
4 eggs
3 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk
Sifted powdered sugar

1. Beat together butter and sugar until fluffy.

2. Beat in vanilla. Add eggs, one at a time, blending well after each addition.

3. Combine flour with baking soda and salt. Add to batter alternately with buttermilk, beginning and ending with flour.

4. Butter and flour an 8-cup fluted mold. Pour in batter.

5. Bake at 350 degrees for about 1 1/2 hours or until a tester inserted in center comes out clean. Allow cake to stand 5 minutes. Invert. Remove cake from pan and finish cooling on a rack. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
