OLD - FASHIONED GINGERBREAD 
1/2 c. butter, softened
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 c. molasses
2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. ground ginger
1 c. hot water

Beat butter at medium speed with an electric mixer. Gradually add sugar, beating well. Add egg and molasses, mixing well. Combine flour and next 4 ingredients. Add to creamed mixture alternately with water, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Mix after each addition. Pour batter into a lightly greased and floured 13 x 9 x 2 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Yield: 15 to 18 servings. Good to serve Lemon Sauce over bread.
