BREAD & BUTTER PICKLES 
5 c. sugar
2 c. water
1 1/2 tbsp. celery seed
1 1/2 tbsp. turmeric
4 white onions, sliced
3 c. white vinegar
1/4 c. plain salt
1 1/2 tbsp. mustard seed
1 gal. cucumber slices

Heat everything, except cucumbers and onions, almost to a boil. Add cucumber and onion slices. Cook until slices change colors, 3 to 4 minutes after they get hot. Place in hot sterilized jars and lids.
