GUM DROP CHRISTMAS CAKE 
1 c. shortening
2 c. white sugar
2 eggs
1 lb. raisins
1/2 c. molasses
1 tsp. baking soda dissolved in hot water
1 lb. gum drops (no black or white)
1 c. pineapple juice
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 sm. box candied citron
1/2 tsp. ginger
4 c. flour
1 1/2 c. applesauce
1 sm. box each candied red & green cherries

Cream together shortening and sugar; add eggs and molasses; mix well. Sift flour and mix with salt, nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon and ginger. Dredge the cut gum drops, raisins and nuts in dry ingredients and set aside. Add applesauce to shortening mixture and add soda, then alternately add the flour. Last fold in the dredged gum drops, raisins and nuts and fruit. Grease well two loaf pans. Bake for about 1 hour at 325 degrees or until done.
