1 1/2 c. shortening
3 c. white sugar
3 eggs
4 1/2 c. flour
2 tsp. nutmeg
1 1/2 tbsp. cinnamon
1 tbsp. salt
1 1/2 tbsp. cloves
1 1/2 tbsp. baking soda
3 c. unsweetened applesauce
2 1/2 tbsp. corn syrup
1 1/2 c. raisins (cook for 10 minutes then drain)
1 1/2 c. chopped nuts
Dates, if desired

Put nuts, dates and dry ingredients with flour. Mix well and let stand. Add to this shortening, sugar, eggs, raisins, syrup and applesauce which are all mixed together. Bake in 300 degree oven for 1 hour or until done.
