1 c. self - rising corn meal
1 tsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 egg
1 or 2 tbsp. grated onion
1/2 c. beer

Mix ingredients together. Pour enough beer to make mixture stiff. Roll into balls and drop into hot oil. Brown and drain well.
