SIMON'S HUSH PUPPIES 
1/2 c. sifted flour
1 beaten egg
1 1/2 c. cornmeal
1 tbsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. milk
1 onion

Sift together dry ingredients; add egg and milk to dry ingredients, stirring lightly. Drop a teaspoon of batter for hush puppies into oil (about 360 degrees), frying a few at a time. Fry until golden brown. Drain on absorbent paper. Makes about 2 dozen. This recipe is over 100 years old.
