STREAM LINED WHITE BREAD | |
1 1/4 c. warm water 1 pkg. active dry yeast 2 tbsp. soft shortening 2 tsp. salt 2 tbsp. sugar 3 c. flour In bowl dissolve yeast in water; add shortening, salt, sugar and 1/2 of the flour to yeast. Beat 2 minutes on medium speed with mixer, scraping bowl frequently. Add remaining flour and blend with spoon. Scrape batter from sides of bowl. Cover with cloth and let it rise in a warm place (85 degrees F) until it doubles in size (approximately 30 minutes). Stir down batter by beating 25 strokes. Spread in 9"x5"x3" loaf pan (batter will be sticky). Smooth out top of loaf with floured hands. Let rise again to 1/4" from top of pan (approximately 40 minutes). Bake at 375 degrees. Makes 1 loaf. |
