BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
4 qts. cucumbers, thinly sliced
1/2 c. salt
Ice cubes
2 qts. onions, sliced
1 qt. vinegar
4 c. sugar
2 tsp. celery seeds
3 tbsp. mustard seeds
1 tsp. turmeric

Gently stir salt into cucumbers. Cover with ice cubes; lots and lots of them. Let stand 2 to 3 hours until cucumbers are crisp and cold. Drain. Add onions. Combine vinegar, sugar and spices. Bring to a boil. Boil 10 minutes. Add onions and cucumbers. Bring to a boil. Pack at once into hot jars. Process 30 minutes, complete seal.
