1 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. milk
1 tbsp. butter
3 heaping tbsp. flour
1 tsp. vanilla
Pinch of salt
3 eggs

Mix flour with 1 cup sugar. Add little milk, then blend well the egg yolks into the mixture. Add butter, salt and rest of milk. Cook in double boiler. Put the 1/2 cup sugar in small iron skillet, melt, brown to a good brown (don't let it burn - watch closely). Pour into partly cooked mixture, the sugar will knot, but will melt as it cooks. Cook until thick. Pour into baked shell. Beat egg whites and add to pie and bake at 350 degrees.
