GRANDMOTHER'S SOFT MOLASSES
COOKIES
 
1/3 c. shortening
1/2 c. boiling water
1 tsp. salt
3/4 c. molasses
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1 egg
2 1/2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon

Place shortening in bowl. Pour in boiling water and add salt. Stir in molasses and sugar. Add unbeaten egg and beat well. Sift flour; measure and sift it together with baking powder, soda, ginger and cinnamon. Stir into mixture. Drop by spoonfuls onto greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 12-15 minutes. Makes 24 to 30.
