GRANOLA FRUIT SQUARES 
2 c. quick or old fashion oats
1 3/4 c. all-purpose flour
1 c. butter
1 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 tsp. chopped nuts
1 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
3/4 c. preserves

Combine all ingredients, except preserves, in a large mixing bowl, beat at low speed until mixture is crumbly. Reserve 2 cups of mixture, press remaining onto bottom of greased 13 x 9 inch pan. Spread preserves over base (spreads easier if it is heated) sprinkle with reserved mixture. Bake in preheated hot oven (400 degrees) 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. Cool, cut into squares.

Can substitute 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg, 1/8 teaspoon cloves in dry ingredients, 1 cup applesauce, 3/4 cup raisins and 1/2 cup nuts for preserves.
