ICE BOX COOKIES 
1 c. shortening
1/2 c. white sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar, packed
2 eggs
2 3/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla

Cream shortening and sugars; add eggs and mix. Sift together flour, soda and salt. Add vanilla and mix. Mold into long smooth rolls. Wrap in wax paper and chill until very stiff. Slice and place on ungreased baking sheets. Bake until lightly browned in moderately hot oven, about 375 to 400 degrees.
