EASY ALL PURPOSE YEAST DOUGH | |
2 c. hot water 1/2 c. sugar 2 pkgs. dry yeast 3 tsp. salt 2 c. flour 2 eggs 1/2 c. shortening, softened 4 1/2 c. flour Combine hot water, sugar and yeast. Stir until dissolved. Add salt and 2 cups flour. Beat for 2 minutes with a rotary mixer. Add eggs and softened shortening. Beat for 1 minute. Then work in 4 1/2 cups flour. Cover and let rest for 20 minutes. Shape into desired recipe. STICKY BUNS: Take 1/2 of dough recipe. Roll into 9"x18" rectangle. Brush with melted butter. Sprinkle with 1/2 cup brown sugar. Roll like a sausage and seal the edges. Place 1 teaspoon melted butter and 1 teaspoon brown sugar in muffin or cupcake sections; sprinkle with crushed walnuts. Cut dough into 18 slices. Place 1 in each of the muffin sections. Cover and let rise 40 to 50 minutes until doubled. Bake at 375 degrees for 18 to 20 minutes. Loosen from pan and invert to remove. You can make dinner rolls with the other half of the dough. Shape dough into long roll. Cut into 18 parts. Shape in a ball and place side by side in a greased 9"x13" pan. Let rise until doubled and bake as above. KOLACHY: 1/2 of dough recipe. Roll out into 1/2" thickness. Cut in circles. Place on a greased cookie sheet and let rise. Press an indentation into the center of the circle and fill with pie filling of your choice. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes. Cool and frost edges with confectioners' sugar icing: 2 tbsp. milk 1/2 tsp. vanilla |
