PANE CALDO 
2 loaves Italian bread
1/2 stick butter, softened
4 tbsp. olive oil
2 lg. cloves garlic, minced or crushed
4 tbsp. minced parsley
1/2 tsp. each dry basil and oregano
4 tbsp. grated Parmesan cheese

Buy long loaves about 14 inches long and 3 to 4 inches wide. Slice in half lengthwise. Combine butter, oil, garlic, herbs, and cheese; blend well. Spread on both slices; sprinkle with a little paprika if desired and bake on cookie sheet in a preheated moderate oven (375 degrees) 10 minutes or until bread is crisp and lightly browned. Cut in 2 1/2 inch pieces and serve hot.
