PEPPER STEAK ORIENTAL 
1 1/4 lb. round steak
2 tbsp. shortening
3 tbsp. soy sauce
1 1/2 c. water
1 or 2 med. onions, cut in strips lengthwise
1 or 2 bell peppers, cut in strips
1 sm. can sliced mushrooms
1 sm. can water chestnuts, sliced
2 tbsp. cornstarch

Freeze steak until firm. Slice in thin strips. Brown steak in oil. Add soy sauce and water. Simmer, covered 30 minutes. Add onions, simmer 5 minutes. Add pepper strips, mushrooms, water chestnuts. Add more water and soy sauce if necessary for gravy. Cool until peppers are tender. Thicken with the cornstarch. Serve with white fluffy rice.
