SWEET HEART COOKIES 
2 c. brown sugar
1 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
3 1/2 c. flour

FILLING:

1 1/2 oz. pkg. dates
1/2 c. sugar
1 c. pecans, chopped
1/2 c. water

Cook filling ingredients in saucepan until smooth paste. Let cool. Mix cookie dough ingredients together. Divide dough in half. Roll into rectangular shape (both halves). Spread half of filling on each dough half. Roll up and wrap with wax paper. Chill 2 hours or overnight. Slice and bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes.
