GRANDMA'S DOUGHNUTS 
3 eggs
1 c. sugar
2 tbsp. shortening
3 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
3 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 c. milk
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract or lemon

Beat eggs light, add sugar and melted shortening. Sift flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg with 1 cup flour. Then add milk alternately. Add extract and rest of flour to make a soft dough. Chill. Fry in deep fat (360 to 370 degrees). Drain on unglazed paper. Keep fat at about the same temperature.
