1 tsp. baking soda
2 tbsp. hot water
3 eggs, beaten
1 c. nuts
2 c. dates, cut up
1 c. shortening
1 1/3 c. sugar
1 c. coconut
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix soda in hot water, set aside. Cream shortening and sugar, add eggs. Mix well. Add soda mixture and remaining ingredients. Form in balls and bake on cookie sheet at 375 degrees for 12 minutes. Makes 3 dozen.
