BUTTERMILK BISCUITS | |
2 c. sifted flour 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. baking soda 1 c. buttermilk, sour milk, or sour cream 1/2 c. shortening, butter, or lard (not needed if you are using sour cream) Mix flour, shortening, salt, baking powder, and soda with fingers or pastry blender. Add the buttermilk, sour milk or sour cream and stir with fork until it forms a soft ball. Place on floured board and knead a few times; roll out 1/2 inch thick. Cut with biscuit cutter and place in slightly oiled baking pan. Bake at 425 degrees F. for 15 minutes or until brown. Makes 1 dozen. Note: This is a way to make biscuits in the hot summer days when milk sours easily, or is sour when you buy it! |
