BUTTERMILK BISCUITS 
2 c. flour
1 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
2/3 or 3/4 c. buttermilk or sour milk
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. lard or vegetable shortening

Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Sift all dry ingredients together. Cut in shortening using fork or pastry blender. When mixture takes on consistency of coarse cornmeal, slowly add buttermilk, just enough to hold it together. Turn dough on lightly floured board and knead it for about 30 seconds. Pat it out to 1/2" thickness. Cut with round biscuit cutter. Place biscuits on a well greased pan, just touching each other. Bake 15 to 20 minutes and serve.
