RAISIN OATMEAL COOKIES 
1 c. raisins
1 c. water
3/4 c. Crisco or butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. cloves
2 c. oatmeal
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. baking powder

Bake at 400 degrees. Simmer raisins and water over medium heat until raisins are plump (15 minutes). Drain raisins - reserve liquid. Add water to measure 1/2 cup. Mix shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla. Stir in reserve liquid. Blend remaining ingredients. Drop by teaspoons onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake approximately 7 minutes. Makes 6 1/2 dozen.
