COUSIN RUBY BILLINGSLEY'S FRESH APPLE BREAD | |
1 c. sugar 1/2 c. shortening 2 eggs, beaten 1/2 tsp. vanilla 3 tbsp. sugar 1 tsp. cinnamon 2 c. flour, sifted 1 1/2 tbsp. buttermilk (or 1/2 tsp. vinegar in 1 1/2 tbsp. milk) 1 c. fresh apples, grated or ground 1/2 c. Nuts (to suit) Cream sugar and shortening; add eggs and apple, then add milk mixture. Sift dry ingredients and add to above. TOPPING: 3 tbsp. sugar 1 tsp. cinnamon Sprinkle on top. Bake in loaf pan for 1 hour at 350 degrees. Sweets from the sweetest - Ruby. |
