HUSH PUPPIES 
1/2 c. sifted flour
1 c. cornmeal
1 onion, minced
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 egg
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. sugar
1/2 c. milk

Combine all ingredients with just enough milk to moisten to a rather stiff dough. Drop from spoon into deep hot shortening (350 degrees) until brown about 3-4 minutes. Yield 24 Hush Puppies.
