NO-ROLL SUGAR COOKIES 
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 c. powdered sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 c. butter, softened
1 c. vegetable oil
1 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
4 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda

In a large bowl, cream sugar, powdered sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Add oil, vanilla and eggs and mix well. Stir in flour, baking soda, cream of tartar and salt. Blend well. Refrigerate 2 hours or overnight. Heat oven to 375°F. Shape dough into 1-inch balls and place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Flatten with bottom of glass dipped in sugar.

Bake for 5 to 8 minutes, until set, but not brown.

Yields 9 to 10 dozen cookies.
