CHOCOLATE DUMPLINGS 
3/4 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. cocoa
1 tbsp. cornstarch
Dash of salt
2 c. water
2 tbsp. butter

DUMPLINGS:

1 c. flour
1/2 c. sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. cocoa
1 egg, beaten
1/3 c. milk
3 tbsp. melted shortening
1 tsp. vanilla

Combine sauce ingredients in large skillet, mix well. Heat until sauce comes to a boil and thicken slightly. Remove from heat.

Stir dumpling ingredients to blend, 1 minute. Return skillet to stove top, cover and heat until sauce boils gently. Drop dumplings by tablespoonfuls into sauce. Cover and simmer gently 20 minutes. Peek just once to be sure sauce is simmering. Serve hot with ice cream or whipped cream or topping. Yields: 6 servings.
