AUDREY'S APPLE DUMPLINGS 
1 lg. roaster pan
9 c. water
5 c. sugar
1/2 lb. butter
2 tbsp. cinnamon

Bring to boil in roaster pan and let simmer while making dumplings.

PASTRY:

4 c. flour
1 1/3 c. Crisco
Pinch baking powder
2 tsp. salt

Mix dough and divide into 4 balls. Roll out each one into a square and cut into 4 pieces.

12 apples - peel and slice and put a handful into each of the 16 dough squares. Wet corners of each square and fold over corners to form dumplings. Turn upside down until all are ready. Drop into liquid in roaster pan and bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes and then lower to 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until top is nicely brown.
