MAMA'S SALT RISING BREAD | |
Slice 2 medium potatoes, add 2 tablespoons meal, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon sugar, pinch soda, 1 pint boiling water, place in glass jar or large plastic covered container overnight. If not covered with foam next day, put container in warm water until it does foam. Remove potatoes, discard, add enough flour to make a stiff batter when stirred with spoon, let stand until light and puffy. In a pan of very warm water - add: 1 c. oil 1 c. sugar 1 tbsp. salt One pint warm water, add flour and knead until dough will not stick to board. Make into loaves and (or) rolls. Put into well greased pans, let rise well. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour. |
