CAROL'S CHEESY BREAD | |
1 (1 1/2 to 2 lb.) loaf unsliced Vienna bread 1/2 lb. butter 1 tsp. dry mustard 1 tbsp. seasoned salt 2 tbsp. chopped onion 1 tsp. poppy seeds 1 tbsp. lemon juice 3/4 lb. block Swiss cheese 1/2 lb. block Cheddar cheese Heavy duty foil Cut bread into small diagonals--two ways, criss cross, not sliced all the way through. In saucepan, melt butter and combine with mustard, salt, onion, poppy seeds, lemon juice. Cut cheeses into julienne sticks; size 3/4 inch x 1/4 inch square. Place cut loaf on large piece of foil. Stuff alternate sticks of Swiss and Cheddar in the cuts. Use foil to hold bread in shape. When done, drizzle butter mixture over loaf. Fold up foil to cover tightly. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. To serve: Remove foil, cut bread in pieces. Freezes well and goes right into oven. |
