FILLED COOKIES 
1 c. shortening
1 c. white sugar
1 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
1/4 c. sour milk
1 tsp. vanilla
3 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
Fig filling

In large bowl, cream shortening and both sugars. Add eggs, sour milk and vanilla and mix until smooth. Sift together dry ingredients. Stir into batter. Chill 1 hour. On floured board, roll dough to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut into 2 inch rounds with cookie cutter. Place 1/2 teaspoon fig filling in each of half of the rounds. Cover with remaining half of round. Seal edges with fork, cut slits in top. Bake 10 to 15 minutes in 350 degree oven. Makes 5 dozen.
