Leave salt out of the recipe. Then salt and pepper your fish to taste (or any seasoning), before dipping into batter. You could also use 1/2 cup corn meal to recipe, buttermilk or milk substitute for water. Have fun and eat

I absolutely LOVED this recipe, I cut back on the salt also. I dipped my fish into flour and shaken off the excess before I dipped it into the batter to ensure the a stable crust. I had this recipe a year ago, lost it and completely freaked out, because it is the best. I just found it and I'm relieved thanks so much! :-)

I usually make a beer batter, but I only had 2 beers left in the fridge. So, I used this recipe for fried crappie. A real winner. Try 2/3 cup flour and 1/3 cup cornmeal. That's good too! (I cut back a little on the salt). Thanks.

I'm 15 went out fishing today and caught 3 large mouth bass.
I have never had bass before and my uncle said the only thing to do was fry them so I cuttem up and fried them and tasted it..

Best piece of fish i have ever had. Period.

Used this last night with Tilapia. It was good but not great. Much too salty for me due to my hypertension, even though I only used half the salt it called for. I did like the consistency of the batter. Will use it on cod next time.
Thanks for the recipe

My husband thought this was the best batter I've ever made. I decreased the salt by 1 tsp... I was told to keep the recipe cause he wanted it again.. nice and fluffy, crunchy and tasty.. We live on the Mississippi so we eat lots of fish..

Before I dipped the cod in this batter I marinated it in a red wine, and man I've never had a more delicious piece of cod. I'm an 18 year old college student and boy were my room mates happy when I brought this to the dinner table. Thanks fellow cooks! :)

I am a 3rd year college student and I used this recipe during the month of November to cook deep fried fish and it turned out delicious. It was so good I shared it with people next to me in my dorm.

So very easy. And as good as some with many more steps. The vinegar certainly gives it a good taste and aroma while cooking. I really enjoyed this recipe.
