GRANDMA'S CHOCOLATE CAKE | |
1 c. shortening 2 c. sugar 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. vanilla 2 eggs 2 1/4 c. flour 1 c. buttermilk 1/2 c. cocoa 2 tsp. baking soda 1 c. hot water In large mixing bowl, cream shortening, sugar and salt. Add vanilla; add eggs and beat until mixture is very light and creamy. Add flour and buttermilk. Beat 2 minutes. In a small bowl, mix cocoa, baking soda and hot water. Add to batter, mixing well. Bake in three 8 inch layer pans or a 9x12 inch pan for 30-40 minutes at 350 degrees. Grease pans well. Frost with favorite frosting. Very good plain or with whipped topping. |
